But, for me it was not the calling out of the INTs and mistakes after games so much - that's common stuff...and comes with the game of football.
For me, it was the cryptic stuff after the season that I thought was a little petty and not cool on McVay's part. Snead & McVay would be a bit too sly in how they spoke of Goff and his future....I thought that was a bit disrespectful and coulda been handled much better by NOT doing that.
Also, I do not recall them doing that with other players the way they did that with Goff.
I think your opinions and perceptions are pretty astute. After the season, they didn't do the typical, respectful coach/GM speak which they usually engage in for potentially departing players. And I agree that it did come across as a bit disrespectful and that is something which we hadn't seen before.
I appreciate the clarification. I didn't recall anything McVay did that came across as personal or disdain during the season so wanted to clarify that we were thinking of the same things that occurred after the season.Quote

I think McVay got the best from Goff and when the NFL caught up to what they did and took it away...McVay got frustrated that Goff could not carry out the new/improved game plans designed to keep the defense off balance. So, defenses just started taking things away and McVay's offense got smaller and smaller. McVay saw that he couldn't adapt his offense or that Goff wasn't the guy capable to run the different offensive counters to what the defense was taking away. Divorce was imminent at that point. We'll sure get a real sense of how all the people involved(Goff, McVay, Stafford) and a better idea of everyone's talent/ability in the situations this coming year....
I wholeheartedly agree with this part. This is not just your opinion. This has been confirmed by Rodrigue as the opinion of the Rams decision makers.
Basically, McVay felt that the league had caught up to his scheme in many ways, that he needed to change and adapt, that continual changing and adapting would be necessary, and that he didn't believe that Goff could keep up with him in implementing those changes. It's more than a disconnect. The main issue is Snead/McVay didn't believe in Goff's above the shoulders capabilities or as you stated "he wasn't the guy capable to run the different offensive counters."
Not so sure it was McVay changing and adapting to defenses , it was more adapting to life without a dynamic back like Gurley and a loss of true speed on the outside. Yes, we can spin it other ways, but both 2019 and 2020 Goff and McVay were missing those key elements to what made this team so special in 2017-2018....For some reason, Goff get's most of the blame for the regression and there is no denying his inconsistent play, but I see it more than just a Goff issue..the entire offense was inconsistent ..It's no coincidence that we spent most of our little FA budget that we had on an aging DeSean Jackson and our first pick on a Jackson Jr.... I remember watching the Niners game and Gregg Jennings say "the Rams don't have anyone who scares a defense" when referring to the Rams weapons and it is true and made it easy for good defenses to defend

Hopefully with the emergence of Cam Akers and with some speed back on the outside, we can once again get back to what made this offense click....
