No one doubts that.
But there's a line--you don't berate your starting qb in public. It was actually shocking to see when we saw it. I am not referring to things like "the qb can't turn the ball over"--that's normal coach talk. But rarely do you hear the kind of dismissive derision in the voice and almost invariably, if you listen to coaches around the league, they add things like "as our qb well knows" or "as he and I have discussed."
You add in the fact that McV himself said he had communication issues, and it adds up--qb and coach were not meshing. (The last thing you want to hear from a qb coach is that he and the qb are not seeing the same things and/or that he had communication problems with the qb. 50% of the qb coach's entire job is communicating with the qb.)
So how much of that contributed to Goff's poor play in his bad games? (Remember I see 2020 Goff as inconsistent but fixable, not as just plain bad. A just plain bad qb does not have the good games Goff had in 2020.)
So likely they just did not mesh. Which is fine if the upshot is they got Stafford. Stafford is way past his own inconsistent 5th year and so there should be good energy between qb and coach. Which is what we want so no complaints here.
