Rampage2K-
Rampage2K- "Once McVay signed off on giving Goff that extension a year before they even had to, it pretty much signified McVay liked what he saw in Goff and believed in him."
Florida_Ram - I don't entirely believe this. We can't just simply say that McVay liked what he had seen. Maybe he believed Goff would take another step forward but McVay didn't have anyone better he could replace Goff with.
It could be considered that McVay's hands were tied so by default he had to agree signing Goff to a second big money contract based on young starting QB's that were top 15 in line for a new contract.
Rampage2K- there are some rumors out there from everything to things like something Goff said about McVay's fiancé on a group text to Goff not practicing hard enough.....all we do know is that the relationship was damaged and McVay chose to air it out publicly which was very surprising from someone like McVay who is always positive about all his players.
Florida_Ram - Rumors or not, McVay had seen enough of Goff after mentoring him since 2017. McVay thought he could get Jared passed the speed bumps and miscalculated. Jared continued to make too many of the same mistakes.
It was more of the same in 2020 and McVay finally reached his boiling point. He signed off on Goff's extension but he was hog tied and I agree with why he was on board making Goff one of the top 5 higher paid QB's under the circumstances.
Florida_Ram After the 2020 season McVay realized Goff was not getting better. He was kind of cornered and gambled on Goff after 2019 signing off on the contract extension.
There was a lot of information and intangibles involved with this. It was deeper than McVay simply liking what he saw in Goff and believing in him. You know this Rp2K. McVay did what he did based on all the parameters involved and it wasn't merely based on what he believed in. It was ,much more complicated than that.
Rampage2K-How McVay handled the end of his relationship with Jared could've been handled way better but that wasn't the case.
Florida_Rams- You are 100% correct imo. This was not handled the way I expected and it's a scar on McVay's resume. Regardless, I'm happy we have McVay running our organization. I'm sure he would do it differently if he could but it's water under the bridge now.
Doesn't mean I'm right.
Just how I see it....
