that's why the coach is upset too
I mean we have all of this data and I do think some people just ignore it
Since '18, it's been a long list of everyone but Goff. Gurley wasn't 100%, Watkins wasn't good enough, Cooks wasn't good enough, the OL wasn't actually any good, the OL was just bad, the OL coach was bad, the TE wasn't good enough, etc. It's always something or someone other than Goff. And, to some degree there is validity in those excuses but I think we've got 3 seasons...no, 4 different seasons worth of data and examples showing Goff does not produce unless the circumstances are VERY particular.
Most like to write off his rookie season but I think in retrospect, we need to actually consider it again. I no longer just accept that Fisher was just bad and Goff had no part in his own struggles. I mean, the oft-maligned Bradford was relatively productive for Fisher so it was POSSIBLE for a QB to not be an absolute trainwreck under Fisher. The last 41 games worth of examples show that Goff is struggling to produce even under McVay. It is more than fair to now give someone else a look to see if it's the offense or the QB?
Some have suggested that McVay needs to run a Bear-Raid like offense to utilize Goff's strengths but I think that assumes that McVay has not done what he can to make Goff comfortable. Which I think is a huge leap. McVay took a rookie bust and made him into a back to back pro-bowler. But everyone's got a ceiling and it seems Goff reached his half way through '18. Whatever his weak points are, the NFL has exploited them to the point that dink-and-dunk is all McVay has left with Goff.
