The point is what you call luck may actually be something else.
That's my point.
Strange that you didn't pick that up.
Strange that you think I didn't pick that up. I not only "picked it up" I directly contested your point. All you did was arbitrarily attach the word "luck" to a lot of good personnel work no one has EVER called just lucky, then act as if your made up point relates to the discussion. Your whole thing depends on pretending that if you just throw the word luck around, you've made a point.
Rams have done good personnel work. Remember I was one of the ones defending Snead back in 2017 when there was a general belief that he should go. So I don't get exactly why you're pretending to yourself that in this discussion anyway, anyone has said that the Rams personnel acquisition in the McVay/Snead era is anything less than stellar. That's been my view all along. So again, this caricature thing of yours--you seem to often be fighting positions no one actually holds. I prefer it when posters make the effort to read and get what others are saying. In this case I have long been a big drum beater for Rams personnel approaches. For example, go back and find my posts where I marvel at the fact that the Rams started 6 different CBs in 2019 without skipping a beat.
As for Whitworth. It is rare--whether this suits your personal beliefs or not--for pro-bowl caliber LOTs to just walk into free agency. (You can counter that argument by attempting to show it's
not rare. But...since it
is...that's not a very fruitful path to take.)
The Bengals made a mistake. Maybe another team makes a similar mistake in 2022, but, the probability of that happening is not high. It's just not the kind of thing you can just count on.
So was there a luck factor with Whitworth? Yes.
Why does saying that lead to this off target response to a caricactured position no one holds?
