Its interesting, is it not, that the Rams under McVay is the team that "lucked out" with Whitworth then they kind of "lucked out" with Stafford being available.
They also "lucked out" when Baltimore cut a CB named Williams for a guy named Smith and immediately and "luckily" scooped him up.
They also "lucked out" that some really coveted players they let walk like Littleton, Joyner, Fowler, netted high compensatory draft picks and really didn't do squat for their new teams.
They also really "lucked out" that a heretofore little known coach named Staley could take the defense to #1 without any OTAs.
They also really "lucked out" with the injury situation being spared devastating team wide injuries like the team had in pre-McVay years and like the 49ers did last year.
They also really "lucked out" when a guy named Woods became available from Buffalo and seemingly fit perfectly in their system
And of Course, they "lucked out" with Whitworth.
I'm not disputing your overall point about getting a Tackle, but it seems like the Rams have been getting awfully "lucky" since they installed McVay into the organization.
Makes you wonder about the source of all that "luck".
I don't know what the point of that was. No one here is going around talking about how lucky they are as if that meant they did not do good personnel work. I think you think someone is saying that, and that it fits into some kind of "no one must
ever criticize" crusade to respond to that imaginary thing. Another caricature of a position no one holds.
And. They did luck into Whitworth being on the market though. That's a rare thing. Cincinnati immediately paid for it too. They thought they had drafted his replacement, and, no not so much.
The source of the only luck anyone has actually talked about was the Bengals. They did something rare--they let a pro bowl caliber left OT walk in free agency.
