The difference is that Suh has already gotten his money and is set for life so he is in a position to take risks.

Donald has the set for life contract within his grasp and they just need to figure out a way to come together and close the deal. His agent is negligent if they don't get a deal done this year. Now if the Rams are playing hard ball and are offering less than 16 mil per year and less than 50 mil guaranteed then I take it back. But I suspect they are offering more than that and that they can find a place to make a deal.

Donald is a great player but why should the Rams pay him more than he can make anywhere else? I suspect that their offer has him making more than he can make if he plays for the 6.9 mil and 2 years of Franchise tag at 15 -16 Mil and signs a contract with someone else after that. Even if the money was the same or even a little less it still would make sense for him to get a deal done and shift the risk from himself and onto the Rams.

Agents and players are used to the salary cap going up each year and take it for granted. Well politics aside, the impact of the protests is that the NFL badly damaged their brand last year with millions of their customers. It hurt them in the TV ratings, at the Gate and in Jersey sales. The cap is not going to keep going up unless the NFL and the Players figure out a way to get their customers back and happy. Signing a contract today for a lot of guaranteed money is a good idea if you are a player. I really think the next few years with the cap could be ugly as you reap what you sow.
