I just think they might have a budget...they CAN afford....and AD may want more than that....
so, that'd the the 3rd option in yer scenario, whereby, BOTH sides are operating in good faith
- one side has a budget
- the other side must maximize value....
and I'm just sayin it seems it would been done by now if they were close. I am guessing they may not be close..
and so, I think the Rams will control him as long as is feasible and/or simply trade him now or after a few tags.
The Rams are operating in good faith...but can have a budget they need to stick to for their future plans. I dunno.
just sayin, it's slow goin and negotiations CAN be slow...but I wonder if there is a date of no return where we fans can see if a deal doesn't get done by a certain date...the outcome will likely be a poor one.
Just a reminder.
Why would the Rams be heavily involved in trying to sign Donald if they don't think they can afford him?
They obviously DO think they can afford him (unless they are stuck trying to get him to sign for less than he's worth in terms of 2018 2nd contracts, which is not a good way to approach this issue).
And if they do assume they can afford him, they're right---they CAN. The numbers show that. So I don't know why you are assuming they CAN'T. IMO--of course they can.
