All I know is, teams are seldom that far apart from players in these negotiations,
because the players (or really, their agents) know the market too. So I would assume that no player the team really wants to pay and keep is asking for massively more than market value. It might be more than what the team is willing to pay (see Watkins) but it won't be a huge increase over market value (see Watkins).
Given that, I would also assume that any differences are really just quibbling and that there's no real reason to believe otherwise.
I also know that the teams that have been in this situation before--ie. the 5-6 teams where a player invoked the 3rd year re-negotiation---got it done that same year.
So that's what I see.
