You state in support of your position that Donald is affordable that, “ Besides the Rams believe they can sign him. It;'s either that or they're jerking him around in ways we should be ashamed of”.
That;'s not "supposition" it;'s straightforward logic. The Rams know the going market for DTs of Donald's caliber and/or the 2-3 best defenders in the league. If they don't believe they can afford that range, why are they bothering?
And if, as some have suggested, they're bothering because they don't intend to pay in that range but are just stringing the player along until they can tag him, then yeah that's a ploy. But I don't believe they're doing that. I say that only to let people know who advocate doing it that acting that way is bad business.
So back to the basics. Yeah the Rams know what the range is for Donald and they would be dumb to negotiate if they did not believe they could afford it.
And that was a minor point. I only said it to stress the logic of the situation---if the Rams think that can't afford him then what are they doing? Well what they're doing is acting like they CAN afford him.
Which is reasonable and valid and so on.
The REAL point I made is that yeah the Rams can afford him. Going by the ranges the market has set out for a guy like Donald, you can sign him, sign Goff, and have space left for more within the 60% you dedicate to your top contracts.
And every time the "I wish players would take less for me the fan who wants them to" thing comes up, there's always the Brady example. Who presumably in spite of his massive ego is the only player in the league without an ego.
You can cling to Brady if you want. The list of players who rightfully take what they can get from the market is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay longer and I don't have any problem with them doing that.
EVERY TEAM has to cope with that so it's an even playing field.
