Here’s what you said, in part...
As for dithering around with him and keeping him through franchise tags and the like, that's just plain bad management. Especially since the public startements from the Rams are that they want to extend him. The team is watching. If they dithered around with him like that, here's the message: this is one of the 2-3 best defenders in the league, his actions and his play and his numbers reflect that, and he's a leader and one of the Rams hardest workers...yet when it's time to pay him, the team dithers around with him
Like I said. Bad management. That’s GOOD management when confronted by an unreasonable player and agent demands. The Rams have all the leverage and will continue to do so for at least 3 more seasons. And they certainly know it.
Meanwhile, AD risks his health and future earnings with every snap. Moreover, as has been pointed out, AD risks falling so far behind on his “could-have-been” earnings that he can never recoup it once he DOES finally sign. And by many millions of dollars, at that. Not real smart, if you ask me.
Not unlike a union worker strike for minimal ultimate wage increases that cost several weeks of pay. The union workers can never recoup those lost wages incurred during the strike with the slight extra wages negotiated that exceed what the employer was offering pre-strike, anyway. But I digress...
Would not be a stretch to say that AD and his pos agent are being penny wise and pound foolish. Literally publicly shooting themselves in the foot, financially speaking.
The Rams have no desire to insult AD. Quite the contrary. But they do need to maintain their ability to retain as many quality other players as possible on their 53. That is an important message to send to their other players and their respective agents, not to mention we fans. The tail cannot be allowed to wag the dog.
Hopefully, AD and his pos agent will come to his senses soon and sign something in the neighborhood of a 5 year $100 million contract with heavy guarantees. Forget any deal breaking opt out clauses, if they even exist. Forget about how much Mack will sign for, too. That’s childish.
