Here is one that looks like Heocht was beat. The slot receiver was his only hook to the flat.
Looks like Hoecht had the slot man-to-man. It wasn't.
The RCB (Kendricks) followed his guy inside. He should't have. He had the "final #1" receiver "outside and deep". The guy the RCB had should have been passed to the RS. Hoecht actually tried to save a TD. He looks bad -- but he was covering for a CB who was not good.
So, there has to be perspective. McVay likes the Fangio-style defense. Not defensive us pure, but you can easily see this defense is the same as before, as it was the same as it was before that. Last time Rams ran a different defense was 2019. Of course, new coaches put new wrinkles in -- their own stamp-- but when you see what is happening you can see it's basically the same.
The way people describe things can be highly speculative and be full of confirmation bias. It's just the way it is sometimes. But why things happen and how often things happen have to be put into perspective. Had Kendricks been better and yes, even Spoon --- OLbers would not be in the slot as much. It allowed the CBs to not have to "MEG" man everywhere he goes. It allows for "MOD" which is they have their guy "outside and deep". IT's to prevent explosive plays and last year, explosive plays were up and they had to help CBs.
If White and Williams play well then they will need less help and there will be fewer "walked" OLbers. A I said 58 for Hoecht and 33 for Young last year
