It has only been one game, but the elevation of Shula appears to have solidified the defensive side of the ball.
I am going to use Hoecht as a means of measuring the defense. He is physically gifted and last year many of us felt he was misused or played out of position; I am talking about opposing teams scheming to get him isolated in coverage. After watching Hoecht interview I came away thinking not only is he going to make the team, but he is going to be an integral part of the defense. Shula seems to be a tactician, even his haircut was perfectly manicured.
This is not a shot at Raheem Morris who I feel will a lot better in his second head coaching job with the Falcons. I felt Raheem is a people person and a relationship guy not a 25 hour a day watching tape guy.
In just one game it feels like this year's defense will out do last year's defense without a guy some say was the greatest defensive player ever. I feel McVay was giddy watching his defense attack the opposing team, he was happy when they missed sacks, they flat got after it!
