Doesn't mean you're not right. I do like the mentality of the defensive unit they fielded in the one preseason game we have seen. But the truth is these aren't the starters and the scheme is not cooked up for what opponents do well. So drawing any real conclusions from what we have seen thus far is grasping at straws.
Patience grasshopper. I do think Shula is going to have a quality rush once the starters are on the field, which will benefit him greatly. But there's a long way to go here.
By the way in talking coaches we can see some trends with the different personnel groups by measuring improvement in the depth of the units. OL for example the coaching has obviously been exemplary. WR same. And the secondary also had a lot of depth options stepping up, playing fast, which is a great look for the staff.
Two more games to go. And even then we won't really have an idea on the coordinator performance until things go live week one vs Detroit.
The changes are noticeable regardless of who was playing in that game. The swarming to the ball. The solid tackling techniques. The more aggressive scheme all stood out to me compared to the last few preseasons and regular seasons too.
All of the above were things that were lacking previously at every level of the defense no matter if it was the starters or backups. They didn't swarm to the ball. The tackling was weak and the scheme was rather soft.
Does it guarantee us a better defense this year? Not really but it sure does give us hope that at least they are doing the "little things" correctly now even if it was the backups. I would hope if the backups are doing better so will the starters too.
#HelmetHornsMatter
“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.
“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
