The two times we fle to STL for games, we went through OKC as its just a far to drive there as Dallas.. I know Southwest Airlines used to run that direct flight several times a day, but that was also in 2000 and 2001.. Dunno if you checked Southwest (they generally hafta be booked from Southwest's website and don't have flight listed with travel sites like Travelocity) but next time might be worth a try...
Back then the direct flight from OKC to STL was $38..
You may be right, but not the way I went about it. I'll explain.
Like I said, I haven't flown in 14 years. I don't know squat any more. I have no idea what airlines fly in and out of St Louis cause travel just isn't a part of my lifestyle. When I decided to make the trip, I used Travelocity. Southwest flights did NOT appear there, so I thought that meant they don't fly in and out of St Louis anymore. I went with the flights that came up. I think it was mostly United and American and there weren't any direct flights. Not one. So I booked a trip from what they had. It was also discouraging to me that there aren't that many flights to choose from. There might be one that leaves at a more desirable time... but for more money!!
Anyhow, one of the ladies in my bladder cancer support group is a travel agent. After I'd bought my ticket, my group was having our usual monthly lunch and I told her what I'd done. She said, "Why the heck did you do that without calling me first?" The thought never even crossed my mind. I honestly didn't think about.it. She then told me that I should have flown Southwest. I told her Southwest had no flights on Travelocity. That's when she told me that to fly Southwest, you have to book directly with the airline on their website. She also told me don't ever use sites like Travelocity or Expedia. Well, heck... I didn't know that!!!!! She asked me what I paid for my ticket and she about dropped her teeth. She told me to go out to Southwest's website and enter the information to see what I would have paid had I booked through them. I paid $671 and the fare at Southwest was about 1/2 that but it was too late then. She told me in the future if I had ANY questions about air travel, hotel reservations, etc... to talk to her about it first. I could have saved myself some grief if I'd just done that. Before I left, I sent her my itinerary and she emailed me some information which was really helpful to me during my trip.
