It started in mid-2018 before the SB but I get your point.

No it didn't.

"It" is the context of 2020.

In the 2nd half of 2018 there were playcalling issues in combination with OL issues.
...

I wasn't speaking of 2020 or 2019. Only 2018.

In 2018, he had trouble with certain defenses and diagnosing them in addition to the issues you mention. That struggle culminated in the SB.

What I don't do is say all the issues were everything but him. I don't see that as real analysis either.

It's just differences of opinion.

No one says "it was everything but him." I said for example he had 4 bad games in 2020. How is that not an issue with the qb? You want good discussion? Then read people and don't have agendas with individuals. That's especially true of someone who overreacts to being misread themselves and calling it "blatant misrepresentation" and things like that.

Now on to football.

2018 had OL issues though they were in the 2nd half of the season. It wasn't like 2019, but they were issues. What we saw was really 3 things IMO.

1. The OL got exposed in a lot of games. Sullivan was not holding up, Blythe was not a guard, and with those 2 struggling Hav got exposed some too.

2. The "McVay had trouble adjusting to certain fronts" issues started. They showed up in the Detroit game then showed up big time in the Chicago game. Other games too, including the superbowl. That combined with the OL issues was a big problem. We discussed all this at the time and knew full well what it was.

3. Certain defenses and fronts combined with the OL issues led to Goff struggling in a few key games. It got worse if he fell back on pressing to make plays when he shouldn't, which is the main cause of the multiple turnover games. But then he also had the NFC championship game, which you don't win if the qb is really the kind of problem certain people claim he was.

There was Gurley too but to an extent they could still run the ball in games.

This is a case of you misreading (I won’t call it a blatant misrepresentation, but my words were misrepresented). Your lecture was not needed. Usually, they’re not. Irony is lecturing when one is misreading.

To summarize the misread. I said Goff’s struggles started in mid-2018 before the SB in response to a poster. You objected to that. But notice I was only talking about 2018 in the post that you objected to. Only 2018! That was the context.

In your objection you stated that “In the 2nd half of 2018 there were play calling issues in combination with OL issues.” So your objection, at that point, was on point and only about 2018. The way I understood your objection is you saying that Goff had no issues in the 2nd half of 2018. It seems from your words that you feel that play calling and the OL were the two causes to blame for the offensive stumbles we saw. To me, pointing to those two causes without mentioning Goff's role and in fact objecting to my statement that Goff struggled, implies that he was without blame for the 2nd half woes. Hence, my statement of “[all the issues] being everything but him."

Again, that was only about 2018, not 2020. A fuller and complete reading of that statement would be that I don’t feel that all the issues of the 2nd half of 2018 were everything but him – i.e. I didn’t feel they were just OL and play calling. Now it’s possible you weren’t saying that the OL and play calling were the two causes of the offensive struggles but that’s how I read it given that you objected to me trying to place some of the blame on Goff.

Now on to football.

I’ve already agreed with #1. There were OL issues.

On #2, you pin the blame on McVay saying he had troubles adjusting. I blame McVay and Goff for those struggles. McVay did have problems adjusting but honestly, I put some of that on the QB. It’s kind of hard to adjust when you don’t have a QB who understands clearly what he’s seeing on the field and can adjust with you. Goff had trouble diagnosing and understanding what was going on against Detroit, Chicago, and in the SB.

I agree with the first sentence of #3 but not much beyond that. I don’t buy the theory of Goff’s issues being pressing too much.

I doubt we’re going to see eye to eye on this issue. I’m fine with agreeing to disagree. Fair?

None of us see eye to eye on everything. If we did, this would be a boring message board for educated Rams fans.

There are plenty of members on this board that have sharp insight on subjects that are overlooked or taken for granted.

For myself, it's the opinions that come across as forceful and wrapped in fancy articulate words. Then they are meshed with statistics and a bunch of more cross examined views to make themselves sound far more qualified to back up their logic.

There are a handful of posters on this board that never say "oh shucks I was wrong and I see things a little different on the subject that I did last year or last month etc..
