It started in mid-2018 before the SB but I get your point.
No it didn't.
"It" is the context of 2020.
In the 2nd half of 2018 there were playcalling issues in combination with OL issues.
...
I wasn't speaking of 2020 or 2019. Only 2018.
In 2018, he had trouble with certain defenses and diagnosing them in addition to the issues you mention. That struggle culminated in the SB.
What I don't do is say all the issues were everything but him. I don't see that as real analysis either.
It's just differences of opinion.
Goff's struggles and limitations started at that time and continued through 2020. Which isn't to say that he only had struggles and limitations but in retrospect, it's pretty clear that they were significant enough that McVay chose to pay HANDSOMLEY to get rid of Goff. Those are not the actions of a HC and GM who think the QB is fine and other areas need fixing.
So, does one believe that McVay and Snead know what they're doing and can evaluate a player/situation, or does one believe that they are willing to pay a huge price AND misdiagnose the situation? I have no delusions about McVay being perfect but I find it very hard to believe that he would make this big of a move regarding the most important position in football without being pretty sure about Goff.
