The going rate for a starting-caliber QB signing his second contract in 2023 will probably be around $37.355M a year. (That's 15.5% of the projected cap of $241M). Meanwhile, Goff's cap hit in 2023 will be $32.45M. If he's still with the Rams he might be the 15th highest paid QB in 2023.

I mean, if that's the company Goff is keeping in 2 years as the 15th highest paid QB in the league I don't think his cap numbers would be a big deal any more. This year is the big hit, which I think the Rams did on purpose just so his pay wouldn't screw things up in 2022 and beyond.
