Charley Armey was good too, but Les Snead totally rebuilt the Scouting of college and pro player personnel from the ground up. Now McVay and Wade Phillips tell him and his staff what type of players they want, but there is a reason Snead was extended and although many felt he should have been fired along with Jeff Fisher, that was obviously the wrong move and Kevin Demoff made the right decision, but it was mainly the fact that Snead and McVay hit it off too.
Wow I hate to put 2 disagreements in the same subthread but here goes. Armey was not a good GM without Vermeil. Vermeil was in charge, Armey worked with him, and when DV was the guy in charge their drafts were productive. Without DV Armey went south. In fact after 2001 Martz and JZ froze him out of decisions (not that they were any better).
I agree with you about how Snead runs personnel. It's collaborative. Snead is not a boss in charge GM type. That's not his role.
