My son has a 2015 Kia Optima. I got the car pre-owned for him in April of 2021. It had never been wrecked, it had about 40,000 miles, nice inside and out. We've been seeing lots of reports on the news lately about Kia and Hyundai cars being stolen. It's a nationwide issue because those makes have design flaws making them easy to steal. The police suggest people buy an anti-theft club to put on the steering wheel. Last year in St Louis, there were a little under 200 Kias stolen. This year, there have been almost 700 Kias stolen and we're only in August. My son finally went out Saturday and bought an anti-theft club. He lives in the city of St Louis and thefts in the whole metropolitan area have been rampant.

About an hour ago, my son called me, totally distraught and upset. He was all choked up and could barely talk. He managed to blurt out, "The club didn't work". His car got stolen from outside his apartment buidling!! It was locked and it had the club installed. There is something weird about these cars that makes them easy to steal. What's so bizarre is that my son and I talked about this car theft problem at length just 2 days ago and he took the recommended precautions to try and prevent it from happening to him. I've been concerned that he could wind up a victim since he has no garage. So now he has no car and no way to get to work. Mark was just beside himself on the phone. He has no money for another car and is in such despair. The good news is my son-in-law has a Maxima which he seldom drives and it just sits in the garage (he works from home). My daughter offered to lend their Maxima to my son at least till the end of the week in hopes the cops will find his Kia. If they don't find his car... looks like I get to put on my supermom cape, whip out my checkbook and find him another car. The cost of cars... used and new... is ridiculous.. IF you can find them. It's always something.
