Admitting communication could be better is not the same as saying one side is completely oblivious to the situation. In fact to believe your interpretation of the situation onw would have to believe that goff was so bothered by the situation that it affected his performance but was still unaware their was an issue. I won't say that's not possible but it seems unlikely.
