That there was some type of disconnect or communication issue isn't where I have a problem. It's assuming that the "disconnect" means that McVay wasn't listening or was dictating to Goff. There are NO reports on those two specific issues so to be honest that's speculative. An assumption. Guessing. Using your senses, which may or may not be accurate, to interpret. And that's not meant to be an insult. It's just that your opinion lacks concrete evidence. Sorry...
So as I stated earlier, we can agree to disagree. I've heard enough to know where you're coming from.
It's assuming a lot of things so don't try to mindread. If I did not directly say something, do not put the words in my mouth.
PART OF the lack of communication and disconnect is that Goff was just supposed to do what he was told. Where anywhere at any time ever did you get a different message on that. You don't go to the press and say "the qb ain't doing what he's supposed to" when you are the qb coach--if you are the qb coach you are supposed to say, what are you seeing and why. And then adapt to it.
It includes the entire "15 seconds in his ear" thing. When he got Goff, Goff was not very experienced, so he dictated.
When the qb and the coach are seeing different things on offense, it's the coach who is supposed to fix that.
The entire confessional thing McV got into after the trade and he had a long talk with Goff conveyed that. He got impatient with a young qb and did not sit down and fix things, he just blamed the qb.
Heck even I heard the reason for the big turnover games and McV never did. Goff had multiple turnover games when he was pressing to make plays. You can coach a guy out of that--Warner was doing the exact same thing in New York and of course Warner unlearned that or Arizona never would have gone anywhere with Warner.
It's all there, right in front of us, AND will all be very very different with Stafford.
Please don't be one of those guys who just kneejerk defends the head coach no matter what. I think Vermeil was the best head coach the Rams have had since I started following them, and when it was warranted, I criticized Vermeil too. I am an equal opportunity realist.
