Sometimes it felt like he didn't have enough faith in Goff to run his offense to the best of his ability. And then maybe sometimes it felt like McVay would rather treat X's and O's like a game of chess as opposed to Jimmy's and Joe's. Stafford is a kind of guy who likes to work off scripts and do his own thing so it'll be interesting to see if McVey tries to tie him up with his own particulars or if he'll give Stafford a little more of his own leash.
I think those are fair points. We are actually closer in how we view all this than our previous disagreement seems to indicate. (The only thing I would add is that McVay's distrust was as much on him as on Goff--that was a problem with coaching too.) We do agree Stafford is a completely different animal. And yes that could change McVay's whole style. If nothing else being a heady, savvy veteran makes Stafford a completely different guy and that in turn, I bet, will make McVay a different guy.
IMO you can already hear it in how McVay talks about Stafford.
