. McVay won't be losing patience with Stafford-
...................
I'm with you on most of this. This one assumption quoted here is the biggest curiosity to me. Why did McVay lose so much patience with Goff specifically? Is it purely because he saw Goff wasn't getting it done (which he did at points like Seattle playoff and Tampa)? Goff wasn't the only problem with the offense so it doesn't make sense why Goff became his primary target (Kromer may have been a target too).
I think a huge part of it is because he was feeling the pressure of losing games like the Jets and 49ers. He lost his self-control/patience in a big way for the first time in 4 years. Now if Stafford comes in on fire and they are winning, McVay will be giddy. If on the other hand the Rams struggle and start losing unexpectedly early, I have a feeling we will see the same impatient McVay... He's put the pressure on himself to win a Superbowl with the Stafford trade and as soon as that comes under significant threat we will see McVay's true character.
Coaching and leadership are the most important factors to long-term success in my opinion. It's why McVay can come into a losing team and with only. few key changes and new coaching staff take the Rams to an instant winner and playoff team. It's why I expect the Rams will be a winning team again this year despite huge coaching staff turnover and a fair amount of players too.
Back to Detroit, with a whole new coaching staff, and Holmes seemingly improving the roster all over, there is a good chance they are a MUCH better team. It's clear that Patricia was a bully and lost the locker room. I also don't think they are completely void of talent much like the Rams under Fischer. They've had a lot of high round picks for a long time. Goff will likely do better under Lynn who was able to do good things with a rookie Herbert.
Note: Interesting to get Detroit Fans perspective on Stafford. I don't think the majority of fans were "sold" on him either. I may add some of the pros and cons in a more Stafford specific thread.
