Goff seems to be a streaky player.
Plays great for spells, then come the clunkers. I wish I had more confidence that he would take that next step and be consistent. I fear he is what we've seen.
I don't have much faith in this OL, so that muddies things. Still, Goff has got to be more consistent if this team is gonna go back to the big dance.
And strangely, the clunky moments seem to coincide with the OL unravelling. Like the 2nd half of 2018, when Sullivan declined, Blythe was exposed, and Hav stepped back a bit.
And of course what happened in 2019.
It's so odd that both things would happen at the same time.
Almost as if they were. Connected.
I get it. And yes there is a connection. Thing is, it is quite apparent that Goff is much worse than other quality QBs under pressure. Thats the book on Goff right now. He is great at staying healthy. And part of that is bailing out early and protecting himself even if it means a bad play.
Just go back to the Steelers game. They threw the kitchen sink at him and he folded like a cheap wallet.
Right now, thats what we got. A QB who folds like a cheap wallet against top defenses. And the most concerning thing is I don't think our OL is gonna be good enough this year, especially early on, to prevent that.
