I'm only talking about extending players. You get that right?
The reason it's an issue for me is because I'm not sure that AD, Joyner, Gurley, Goff, and MP will get extended in due course.
Those are all elite players and they have shown me nothing so far to indicate that they can get deals done with that caliber of player.
Well, if we’re discussing whether the Rams are lowballing their top players, then incoming FA’s should definitely be allowed in as evidence to the contrary.
BTW, you are crossing at least 3 bridges before we come to them in Goff, Gurley, and MP. They’re all still 2 years out.
AD? Been in talks for a year and a half. I think something like $20 million per for 5 years with a heavy guaranteed has been on the table for some time. But AD and his pos agent want something else, I think. Some kind of poison pill clause? I can’t blame the Rams for rejecting something like that.
Joyner? Just tagged him at $11 million, man. Fifth highest Safety salary in the league. Right at, or maybe a little above his worth. That’s not lowballing him. Why wouldn’t he want the 5 year security and the $35 million guaranteed?
Know what I think? I think that there is a new trend among top tier players and their agents to reject extensions and conduct an auction the following year for their services because each year the cap goes up. They’re simply milking the system. Lol.
But I digress...
Nice discussion, man.
