what tree, TA, etc signed for would be a joke to AD, Watkins, Tru...Joyner?...and those guys proved to be right...
they got far more money in FA. But that's what I'm saying is that the staff have $$$ number for the position defined/valued and i'm not sure what that is...but it appears they are sticking to that. Is it smart? Is it a good idea? I dunno.
If we keep winning and goin to the play-offs...then, yeah I guess..it's working.
If not, they WILL get fired and we'll bring in new staff that may/may not have new positions they value and are willing to pay for.
btw - THAT'S all I'm saying in this thread...rightly or wrongly on their part it's the decision how they value which positions...
I'm not really saying one is better...just wonderin what the staff values and see where they put their money.
And, I can't quite figure it out yet.
I wasn't suggesting that our elite players sign for what Austin and AO got.
I was stating that Austin, Barron, and AO are average players that were overpaid by a significant amount. For example, I believe AO is an average LB that is worth somewhere in the $6 - $8M range. That's what average LBs are currently paid. However, he was made the 2nd highest paid ILB at a salary of $10.7M.
IMO, that's a good 33% to 50% over payment.
Why do that? He's average! Let him walk.
Instead why not take your above average or elite player and add 25% to 33% to what you think he's realistically worth. For example, the Rams offered JJ $9M which he felt was an insult and declined. Why not add 33% which is $3M to that offer for a total offer of $12M? Maybe if they did this, their above average players wouldn't get away or they wouldn't be forced to use the franchise tag on them.
To be clear, ideally over paying would never happen. But the reality is, it has been happening.
IF it's going to happen, make sure it happens on the really good players.
The players they've been able to sign to extensions aren't the really good players.
