A habit of lowballing their best players, dz? What?
Yeah, they underestimated Jenkins value, but I don’t think that that was a deliberate lowball.
They certainly didn’t lowball Tavon, Ogletree, Woods, Whitworth, or Barron. That’s for darned sure.
And btw, what team doesn’t enter negotiations with a lower offer than they’re willing to ultimately pay? Or people buying homes or cars for that matter? C’mon...
Look, the Rams have reportedly been negotiating with AD for a year and a half. Everybody should be waaaaay past the preliminary dancing of offers and counter offers.
Something substantial has created this impasse and I don’t think it’s the Rams unwillingness to pay him in the neighborhood of $20 million per with very heavy guaranteed.
Sooooo...
Read what I wrote again:
"...low balling their

Austin, Barron, and Ogletree don't qualify as best players. None of the three are much better than average IMO.
I'm talking about a deficiency in their ability to extend above average or elite players. I'm not talking about extending average ones or signing free agents.
So now we’re only allowed to count “best players”? And, by definition, they can’t be on their rookie contract?
Whitworth
Woods (many thought Rams overpaid him at first)
Brockers
Barron (he was definitely considered a “best player” when he extended)
TruJo (tagged twice for crying out loud)
Joyner (yeah, an $11 million tag contract is hardly a lowball)
Hekker
Zuerlein
McQuaide
Rams FO didn’t cheap out on any of these players, IMO.
So many of our “best” players are still on their rookie contracts, so the jury is still out on them. But I’m pretty sure that AD, Gurley, and Goff, and MP will get extended in due course.
