rather than sign a fair minded contract. I'm all for playin players tryin to make as much as they can....
but I'm also for fiscal responsibility regarding a team trying to win with 63 contracts on it's books.
It's a hard balance and mistakes can/will be made.
However, it seems there are guys that want to hit FA and will not sign until the BigONE...I'm for moving on from those players and using every means of control to keep them as long as I could with the team and paying them at a minimum what I think their value is to the team. I think Joyner is a Safety that will be like Tru...and want bigger money than we have slotted for him. I think Peters is the same...Donald too....maybe TGII...I dunno. But I think we WILL use the tag for the next 4-5yrs as a real tool to keep players...
and then tag & trade players to get good draft picks...or comp picks in 2019 & 2020.
Could NRC play Safety like Joyner? I dunno, but he plays alot like Joyner and is aggressive in the run game. iirc
I still think we pas AD the 5th yr, tag him for 1y and tag him for 2yrs...and tag and trade him on the 3rd year of the tag..or maybe earlier.
Think AD would fetch 2 #1s in a trade? I do.
Anyway, a long-winded post bout how SOME players are choosing the tag and NOT long term contracts unless the money is INSANE. I'd sure like to share more of the cap pie and create a bigger middle class on a team....where more than zns apt observance that 8-10 players of a 63man team...make 50% of the cap....I'd like to double that number or maybe get to 25 where a lot of guys are getting 2-5m/yr. Anyway, I'm just musing here and speculatin....
many grains of salt are needed when reading my posts! LOL
