Do I've never owned top end instruments...., but then again, I've never been a top-end player.
Also, I tend to hold on to my guitars...
My earliest days with a band, we borrowed, half of our equipment from older players in our neighborhood. At the time, I didn't realize I was learning to play bass on a borrowed vintage Fender Precision Bass. Would love to own that now. Spent most of my band days going back & forth between Bass & Rhythm Guitar. Got to play lead a couple of times on easier stuff, but I never really had those kind of chops. So I have much respect for guys like SST.
Anyways, didn't even buy my first instruments until I joined the Army, and started a band while in Germany.
Acoustic Guitar:
Hofner - bought while in Germany, still have it.
Electric Guitars:
Ibanez Roadster - bought while in Germany, and gave to a nephew years ago.
Washburn Force 3 - bought about 40 years ago, still my favorite to play.
American Fender Strat -have had for about 5 years.
Mexican Fender Strat - traded this one about 3 years ago.
Les Paul Epiphone - this one is a beauty that I traded my Mex. Strat for..., but regret it. I'm definitely a Strat guy.
Fender Jazz Bass.
