at the end of the string is a "ball" that actually looks like a doughnut.. the string loops around it and is wound to keep the ball in place.. the ball is what hooks to the bridge side of the guitar - the other end goes to the tuning pegs on the headstock..
By dive bombing on the wang bar, the tension on the string goes from zero to fully tight in very short periods of time.. eventually the winding around the ball comes undone and once you reapply tension, that ball will go shooting out like a bullet - half the time right into my eyeball.. lol.. so, where you see the winding in the photo, I solder that winding to keep it from unwinding.. I thought I invented the procedure, but have since read that many people do it..
