that's awesome.. you are as picky..

wit your sticks as I am with guitar picks.. Most people don't realize that guitar picks can greatly influence your sound, depending upon the material they are made of and the thickness etc.. I can grab different picks of the same thickness, play a few notes and pretty much immediately know if I like the pick, or not.. getting custom picks made is always a challenge because I have to go through the same song and dance as to "what pick do you offer that most closely matches a Fender medium?"

sometimes they are hundred's or thousands of an inch off thickness-wise.. and material-wise, they ALWAYS say " its not the same material, but its so close you'd never know the difference"... Um, yeah, I'd know the difference right off the bat..

Strings are the same way- how did I not mention strings? the guitar equivalent of drum heads.. Thickness is CRUCIAL tot he style you play.. round wound or flat wound - can't stand flat wound strings.. I exclusively use Dean Markley Blue Steel Cryogenics, that are frozen cryogenically (yeah right!) in custom gauges.. I used to have to buy a regular .09 set and would buy fatter low E and A strings for a beefier sound.. I got tired of that and just started using regular .46 -.09 sets..

I've mentioned it before, but every time I change string sin the Jackson Randy Rhoads models (the only guitar I play onstage) I have to solder the ball end of the strings to keep them from coming unwound while using the wang bar.. for some reason the Kahler wang bars cause the strings to come unwound and the ball to shoot up and smack me in the eyeball.. with a Kahler wang bar system, if you break a string, the entire guitar goes horrifically out of tune, so as soon as you break the string, you hafta change guitars.. which was a constant argument for 18 years with my former vocalist, who "knew everyone better than everyone else" and constantly complained that I didn't finish the song after breaking a string.. even in practice, once, I tried to show him, and I guess his thoughts were "if he breaks a string and sounds like total crap the rest of the song, I'll sound better as a vocalist, so he needs to keep playing due to my limited self confidence and need to be a star" lol

Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
