One genre of music I've never played in a band, (I HAVE played a few, very few, individual songs), is Rhythm and Blues, Motown...... and it breaks my heart, because I've been into that genre longer than perhaps any other except for classical.
I remember back in High School and my friends gaga over Jimi, The Stones, The Beatles, The Who (and me too, loved them all), then they'd ride with me and they'd ask me, "Who the hell is Joe Tex? Otis Redding? Wilson Pickett, Aretha, The Spinners, The Isley Bros., Smokie, Fats, Stevie????? And I'd just shake my head, "you have no idea what you're missing".
Problem with putting together a group to play that genre... you need a singer. And I don't mean just any singer.... I mean a singer who can wake the dead, hail angels down from heaven, get right down into the core of your very being and touch your soul. I've come across damn few singers of that ilk. - JamesJM
