The problem with all of this is that we are comparing apples to oranges. Last night Wolf faced the Texans' starting D. His OL was completely overwhelmed so he was in emergency mode on nearly every snap. He completed 14-22 passes and while throwing no TDS also threw no interceptions. Perkins came in the second half against backups. He did look good and moved the ball well. With Stafford's sore elbow Wolf has been working with the 1's. He has our starting OL and throws to Kupp and ARob. Perkins practices throwing to McCutcheon, Harris and Trammel. Evidently, according to those who regularly attend camp Wolf has looked really good and Perkins has not. I didn't go so I can't argue either way, but I trust the reports. I know from past seasons that McVay uses the team practices against other teams to sort out his team depth. We have these against the Bengals. So, maybe he will decide to keep Perkins over Wolf. It would be a reversal since he kept Wolf out of the first PS game. Perhaps he'll play both his backups the next OS game and reverse the order. Let Perkins face the 1's and Wolf the 2's and 3's.
What I truly don't get is the idea that Jourdan brought up predicting that Perkins would get snapped up over Perkins if left on the practice squad. Why would a 3 with no real NFL experience be more valuable than a 2 who has some? Last season McVay thought enough of both to keep them on the 53. Wolf was the 2 and Perk the 3. Neither had to play thankfully.
Well said, SoCal. Wolford had no damned time for most of the night.
I was disappointed with his night, but he had one hand tied behind his back most of the time. Frankly, the Ram OL didn’t distinguish itself while protecting Perkins, either.
