McVay may like Wolf as the 2nd QB but you must wonder why. My question is what has Wolf ever shown us? He came in for Goff and got hurt a few season back but before he got hurt he didn't seem to do much. It is said that with Perkins they run a different offense so maybe that is the issue in having Perkins as the #2.
I like Perkins over Wolf and think you could actually have a few sets for him on occasion in a wild cat type offense to shake things up. At least he could contribute on game day.
If Stafford gets hurt Wolf isn't going to win many games. I see him as a lower tier backup who has reached his ceiling as a player. At least Perkins can make things happen with his feet when things break down.
