I think your missing the point. And to be honest it's a huge miss ! I'm betting the companies you "fizzled out" on were not subjected to a rule designed specifically to allow minorities in search of a head coaching job in the NFL to believe they were being treated fairly and the "process" was even handed. The NFL had such a rule-albeit under pressure- that all of ownership agreed upon. They then intentionally violated that rule without any regards to how that would affect the minority applicant.

Reading between the lines I believe what you are saying is that there really should be no Rooney rule and that ownership should be able to hire whoever they want even if they do it in the face of existing federal and state laws that prohibit that conduct. Your example of your own issues is not applicable because the laws are there to protect certain recognized classes of people such as sex, age, race, religion, people with disabilities, etc. These are simply classes of people that our nation has recognized as historically been subject to discriminatory practices resulting in harm. I suspect you don't belong to any such protected class. Hence your example misses its mark.
