I've seen some threads on this site and others downplaying the importance and priority of the ILB position based on snap counts and usage in our defense. This for the most part is a false narrative.

According a recognized stat site, micah Kiser and Troy Reeder who teamed up to man the MLB position were on the field for 95% of all defensive snaps. Kiser played exclusively the first half of season was hurt then Reeder took over the rest of the way. They did not split time during the same game for the most part. The only players who were close to that was Ramsey at 93, Troy Hill at 95 and John Johnson at 100%. Ouch! Thats a lot of snaps for not a very important position.

Kenny Young, who is not very good, was in on 46% of all defensive snaps. The rest of the snaps could have been taken up by DBs or maybe by replacement LB, i dont know. If it was the later then then % for the position may go up a little. In any case 46% is not a insignificant amount.

For this mathematical reason alone i believe the snap count arguement does not hold water. Our MLB is out there all the time and I believe we can upgrade at a position that is on the field 95% of the time. Is that so unreasonable?
