...But “your team” system is always evolving from year to year depending on different factors. The nfl is a copy cat league, what has success is often emulated and integrated in your own system....
...Lastly if we are going to rely on Rams drafting history, the have been drafting a year ahead of time for free agent losses the next year. Guess what , in my best Les Snead, Kiser, Reeder , Young and Howard are all free agents next year in some form or fashion. None of those guys should be priority and should be cheap retain at best. That means we should be drafting LB this year and hopefully sooner than later.
The NFL is a copycat league. Which way is it trending? It's devaluing ILBs. Are we really going to buck that trend when we had the #1 D with "subpar" ILBs last year? Why move away from a formula that's clearly working?
And the ILBs that are valued excel in coverage; they're not run stuffers. So the current copycat league trend supports a low priority position on ILBs.
I agree with your second point quoted above. We do have 4 pending free agents which means they probably bring a body in. But keep in mind Howard and Reeder are RFAs next year which are much easier to retain. They probably get an original round tender and are brought back. Also remember they did draft a LB Clay Johnston last year in the 7th round. If we're going to pay attention to their drafting history we should also note then that ILBs are drafted in the very late rounds.
