Some people take certain stats (and quotes) so seriously as these stand alone metrics without putting them into context or lining them up with actual play.
Um, actually metrics are tools to describe actual play.

No, this is not one of those cases where people are cherry-picking subjective pressure stats from various sites. If you read the article you would know that the sources of the pressure stats were TruMedia and PFF.


Here's Stafford facing 10 or more pressures in 2020.

10 against GB, qb rating 91
13 against Jax, qb rating 80.3
19 against Ind, qb rating 96.9
11 against Caro, qb rating 70
13 against Hou, qb rating 84.9

Out of 5 of those games, he had a qb rating of 90 or above in 2 of them.
This is irrelevant. And it shows you've completely missed the analysis that TruMedia and PFF are doing. They're not trying to measure complete games when a QB faces lots of pressure. They're measuring ALL the snaps that a QB had under pressure over the entire season and charting the results of each one of those plays. Per PFF, Goff was under pressure on 200 dropbacks this year while Stafford was under pressure on 166 of his dropbacks. The numbers Goff produced under those conditions was good for 29th in the league. Stafford was 8th. There's no spin, excuse, or explanation that can make 29th look good and certainly not better than 8th.

You pressure anyone and their game diminishes, at least a bit. We can call that the lesson of superbowl 55.
Again a strawman. No one is saying that's not the case. What's being said is that Stafford's game diminishes less than Goff's under pressure such that he is 8th versus Goff's 29th ranking. Stafford either has more good games under pressure, fewer bad games, or a combo of both.

Stafford needs a solid OL too. He's not a magic OL remedy.
Agreed. No one ever said anything different. What was said is that because Goff doesn't perform as well as Stafford under pressure, he has a greater need for an above-average/elite OL. If he doesn't get that, expect a worse performance from him than what one would get from Stafford under the same conditions.

If things go right the Rams will be working on providing him with one.
Two agreements in a row! We're on a roll! Actually, I feel the Rams had an OL this year that was at least solid but I do agree that I would like to see them strengthen it.
