That Goff will say whatever he has to too get out on the field. I do think it's possible his competitive spirit might make him believe he's more ready to go than he actually is but I believe if he 'knows' he is 'less', however much that is, he'll be honest about it. It's not just McVay...it's his teammates... he'll do what is best for them.
And I think it's obvious that Goff understands that, and respects it....he's handled this like a pro
And it matters not at all what Goff believes, that's a non-issue. Well it matters in this sense--we can appreciate his competitive spirit. And as we saw already, he's right, he could play--banged up and limited in ways but still, he gutted out being a solid contributor and making enough plays to help the big horses in that game--ie. the running game and the defense--get the win.
The coach has to determine who gets the practice reps at qb. He can't split them and they have to go to somebody. They can't predict how the 2 guys will look in 5 days so they have to base it on how they look now. What Goff thinks or feels is not going to determine that decision.
