I think McVay is a control freak and doesn't allow his QB to play football. This is not an endorsement for Goff, I am just trying to put myself in any QB's shoes.
I believe to my very soul that McVay's inflexibility and control will cause issue with ANY QB.
I disagree.
Going back to the beginning of McVay's tenure with the team, there were several articles mentioning how he liked to collaborate with his offensive leaders (in particular Goff, Gurley, and Woods) on what they saw in terms of play-creation and execution. In one article that I read, McVay recounted how Woods called him while he (McVay) was driving home from practice to discuss a play that wasn't being executed right in mini-camp. This was done in an effort to make sure that the play was effective and that everyone was on the same page.
I find it difficult to believe that, while in the film room preparing for their opponent, that McVay and Goff aren't in agreement on how they should approach certain defensive looks both pre- and post-snap.
But, of course, there's a different dynamic going on while on the field vs. the film room.
And I think this is where Goff has been having problems this year whether it be not understanding his "hot read" against zero-pressure; reading progressions
the way they agreed in the film room; ball security; or, deciding to scramble on 3rd down, but sliding well before the line of gain.
I definitely feel that there are processing/awareness issues Goff is having that's giving McVay fits.
