As I mentioned in another post, Donald has no leverage in his trade demand if he wants to be on a deep with year to year deep runs into the playoffs.
The top 12 teams this year don't need him or don't have the cap room for him. Did I say 'don't need him'? Yes. They are top teams. They're making runs into the playoffs without him. Would they love to have him? Yes. For the right price. But Donald doesn't afford them that.
So, next year. What up coming team that's a couple of players away trades their future away for Donald?
Donald has the power to cancel any single trade and choose the ones that suit him. Tru already did that.
All teams need a top defender in the game, many would make room for them, and in 2019 there are teams with the cap space to sign someone like him and to create more. We don't know which of them will be playoff caliber in 2019 and what they will want or need. I mean a lot of fans I notice underestimate the value of the interior rush, but teams don;t. They know that sacks for example stall drives at a very large percentage which means less scoring, and that if you have a strong interior rush it sets everything else up.
Again we don't know who the playoff teams will be in 2019 so acting like we know now just means that we FORGOT we actually don't know that. Plus of course we don;t know what the DL needs will be for the teams that are currently playoff teams and might still be then. Let alone all the DL needs of the teams that will be playoff teams in 2019 that we couldn';t know about yet before 2018 starts.
I mean look what Calais Campbell did for the Jagz DL. And Donald if anything is not just better than Campbell he's also younger.
And the "couple of players away" thing is an artificial contrivance to make it sound like the conditions aren't there when we know full well football just isnt like that. If you improve the performance of your entire front 7 by adding the only player in the league who both (1) led all defenders in facing multiple blockers, and (2) AND led all defenders in qb pressures...then you might be only one player away. I know that the Rams giving up on that would make them one player further away. Which is why I hope it never comes to that. This is not one thing I ever want to have to say "see I was right" about.
I see where this is going and am not on board with you. It's too intricately over-contrived. Fact is that there are always teams that know they can benefit from a player like AD (or Reggie White in 1993, same thing) and we don't know how many of those will be set for a run in 2019 or which ones would be interested in Donald. I don't see the point in pretending someone could have all that nailed in the 2018 off-season.
