And assuming the reported $21M is accurate, I've stated since that report came out that it tells us nothing about the guaranteed money being offered. $21M per year is quite a bit more than Miller's deal but is the guaranteed money higher too?
No one knows!
2 M more 3 years later is not quite a bit more.
All other positions have gone up by a far higher percentage since 2016.
21 M in 2018 over 19 M in 2016 is a 10% increase in 3 years. No other position has increases that low.
The question then becomes, why of all positions does this one come in so low in terms of its increases over relevant prior deals in prior years.
And I suggest there is no good answer for that. It's like offering JJ 9 M in a market where 2nd contract starting CBs were worth 12 M.
....
Quick question.
If it’s true that the spread is only about $2 million between asked and offered, why would AD be so adamant about holding out for such a small differential while jeopardizing tens of millions in real time checks in the process?
Seems so illogical. So self defeating.
I suspect it isn't true that the spread is that small. I agree with you that $2M is a difference that could and should be bridged without holding out. I also suspect both Donald and his agent have that much sense.
This is why I've suggested before that the difference per year in the respective sides is probably $6M or more. That's very easy to do: $25M vs. $19M or $27M vs. $21M.
I seriously doubt it's a small difference. But you didn't believe me the first time I mentioned it, this time will probably be no different. LoL.
Oh wait, maybe you will this time because there is one different fact we have: Snead and Demoff have come out and said the two sides are far apart. Would they say that if the differential was only $2M?
Well, dz, you kinda answered my semi-rhetorical question.
The $2 million isn’t really the spread.
AD is asking for much more above Rams best offer. Nothing else really makes sense, does it?
Now, hypothetically, if the Rams are offering $21-22 million, does that mean that AD is asking $26-27 million?
And if THAT’S true, what does that say about AD and his pos agent’s negotiating posture?
And, therefore, is there any wonder that the Rams are standing firm?
Have the Rams made their best offer? I feel like a broken record but again....We Don't Know.
And that's a fact!
Hypothetically, IF the Rams are offering $21-22M, AD could be asking $26-27M. OTOH, it makes just as much sense to hypothesize that the Rams are only offering $19.017M and AD is asking for $24-25M.
If the 2nd hypothesis is true, what does that say about the Rams negotiating posture?
In the absence of facts, I think it's safe to make assumptions demonizing one side.
Do you really believe that the Rams are only offering $19.017 million, dz?
C’mon, man...
See how you used the word "believe?" First, I would like to point out that by using that word you're acknowledging that we're not talking about facts. We're talking opinions and things that we believe.
That said, I don't know 43. I think it's safe to NOT make assumptions.
What I see happening here is people making assumptions that paint the Rams in a good light and Donald in a bad light. I refuse to do that. I refuse to do the opposite too.
You only assume a $21-22M offer because you refuse to entertain the possibility that it could be under $20M...yet $19.017M fits the definition of making him the league's highest paid defender so it could be that. Right?
I just used that number to show that there is a lot of room in this "highest paid defender" offer description. As for what I believe it is, I'll offer my mantra again: we don't know.
But you didn't address the assumption I called attention to in my subject title. Do we KNOW that the Rams best offer is on the table?
Because if we don't, I don't see how we can say that AD is asking so much above it or paint him as being unreasonably in any way. The point of a negotiation is to extract that best offer. Who knows if Demoff goes higher than what's currently being offered?
