If Donald wants to hold out past Aug. 7, the Rams need to simply stick to the CBA and never let him earn another dime of NFL money until he relents.
While admittedly none of us knows all the true facts, some things eventually start to get clear.
1) Rams aren't cheap.
2) Rams are willing to pay top of the market.
3) Donald wants more than top of the market, he wants to re-establish the market.
There's an old country saying that applies: that guy is just getting too big for his briches.
The moral is that those guys always get taken down a peg or two.
Donald is on his way; I hope either the implications are incorrect or that he comes to his senses.
The Rams can do without AD.
But AD can't do without the Rams....not if he wants to earn more money in one year than 99% of his fans will earn in 2 lifetimes.
Great points.
This is a negotiation and each side is using their leverage.
Donald can hold out that is his leverage
Rams had the CBA on their side 6.9 + 2 Franchise years
We really don't know what is going on behind the scenes
We know AD agents are hard ball player
We know that the Rams do not want to damage the future of the team by grossly overpaying what the market is
We know that after this season AD loses $$ in career earnings if he doesn't sign a contract
We know that AD bears all the risk if he doesn't sign a contact.
We think that AD wants wild record setting money in the area of 25 Mil per
We think the Rams are around 20-21 Mil per year with high guarentees
We think AD wants to be a Ram
We don't know what the Rams asking price would be in a trade. 2 1st rounders is if the Franchise fee but that is still a year away.
We don't know if the Rams have even tested the trade market
We don't know how teams will react to the cancer of AD agents
I still think there is a reasonable place to get a deal done that is a win win for both parties
I know Rams will offer a killer contact and already have done so.
I don't know if AD agents is trying to get a deal done and just working to extract all they can out of the deal and will sign when get to the Rams best and final offer or if they are holding out for something that is more than the Rams will consider going. To me this is the real question and only AD agents know the answer to that question and as expected they are not showing their cards.
