“Sitting on a player” would not be a “punishment”, zn. You’re making this too personal, man.
It’s a negotiation strategy. It’s business. And it would be damned effective if they followed through.
Think of it this way. AD’s camp is apparently haggling over a difference of approx $4 million per year.
If he sits he loses almost $1 million per GAME (vs his ‘19 tag amount, even more vs a reported offer of $21-22 million). Money that will NEVER be coming back. All in his prime earning years. How does this make sense for a fellow that is apparently all about maximizing his income? Trust me, he wouldn’t sit for very damned long. Lol.
Moreover, he would alienate teams, coaches, teammates, and certainly the fans while he further frustrates himself needlessly. How does THAT make sense, either?
He and his agent should be asking themselves several questions.
1) How does their current stance appear to potential suitor teams? Got to be scaring some off, I would think.
2) How many teams would offer AD the hypothetical $25 million per AND give up the two 1sts to the Rams? Gotta be a verrrrry short list, huh?
3) How many trade suitors could there possibly be, anyway? Not an NFC West team, that’s for sure. Probably not an NFC team at all, certainly not a contender that the Rams think they must face in the playoffs.
OTOH, he could sign something today in the neighborhood of a 5 year extension through ‘23 for $110 million with $70-80 million guaranteed which would take the injury risk completely off the table. Highest paid defender in history, financially set for generations, frustrations gone, playing for amazing coaches and with a SB quality roster of teammates.
Seems like a no brainer to me. Unless one is unbelievably stubborn, greedy, and/or so ego driven that they’re willing to cut off their own nose to spite their face.
Why not simply take yes for an answer?
