An extension in June-July and an extension in December are two
entirely different things. And part of the reporting out there is "How could the Rams extend this guy now!!??" They didn't. He got a one year extension over the summer with a
team option for a 2nd. I don't find that very incredulous. Most Rams fans felt reasonably good about this team coming into the season. And 98% of HCs that get fired do so with a year or two left on their contract. So the reports that the extension really means nothing are accurate.
I don't know how this plays out... Fisher is 8-8 in the final month of the season as Rams coach. They were awful looking this time last year, 4-8 on a 5-game losing streak, and ripped off three straight wins and almost a 4th. So who knows. It will not surprise me if this team finishes 4-12 or 7-9.
One thing that concerns me- let's just say they do finish 7-9 and somehow they do let Fisher have 2017. BUT they insist on a new OC, QB coach, OL coach. The danger there is if that doesn't work out you then would have Goff playing for his 3rd OC in three years in 2018 which is
never good for a young QB. So that is one argument for just moving on in 2017 to another HC/OC.
