I'm definitely okay with demanding results from our FO, Dead. Including Snead. So we're clearly on the same page there.
Three things that keep me from a knee jerk lashing out and firing Snead.
The biggest is that none of us knows how much input Snead had in personnel decisions over the last 5 years, with particular emphasis on O players. I suspect the lion's share falls on Fisher. After all, Snead was required to select from a talent pool of "Fisher type" players, wasn't he? Could it be a self fulfilling prophecy type thing? Only Demoff knows for sure. I think Snead's fate will hang on that knowledge of Demoff's. Snead might be a hero, or maybe the goat on those many decisions. I think that Snead deserves more benefit of the doubt, myself.
ME: So fire Snead (or let his contract expire) and bring in a GM and hand him the keys to the personel dept., let fisher have to work with someone he didn't hand pick and that has last say over him. GM picks players, Fisher and his band of merry goofs coach them.
The second thing is that I believe that Snead has exceeded league averages in success of his late round and UDFA choices. If you disagree, that's fine. We'll just have to agree to disagree.
ME: since the cupboard was so bare from the last administration, there were far more holes to fill, so some late round picks were gonna stick. Moreso then a team like Pitt or NE or Seattle. 2nd, I could carfe less if he hits on a 7th rounder that makes the team and misses on the 33rd pick overall (Brian Quick) YOU HAVE TO HIT ON YOUR TOP PICKS.
Lastly, I strongly suspect that Fisher and his crack O coaching staff have bungled the development of too many "good" picks. More than the typical NFL coaching staff, anyway. I can't, in good conscience, hold Snead responsible for that.
ME: all the more reason to separate the picker from the coacher. THat will never happen with Sneads nose up Fisher's...well we both know where.
