but trading down does not have to be just for top pick

here is example
in 2017 Rams had 37th pick--about same as this year
traded down to 44 and got #91
but also had to give up a 5ths

so 2nd round and a 5th for a 2nd round and a 3rd.

We took Everett and John Johnson--Johnson with the extra pick.

We don't know for sure, but it is possible Rams would have taken
Everett at 37

Who'd we miss out on?
Forrest Lamp - OG -Western Kentucky
Marcus Maye - S -Florida
Curtis Samuel - WR- Ohio State
Dalvin Cook - RB Florida State ACC
Marcus Williams - S- Utah
Sidney Jones - CB- Washington

The only guy we missed out on, possibly is Dalvin Cook
Would Rams have taken him? Unknown, but if they coveted him
they could have grabbed him.

So, Rams got John Johnson.
And missed out on a 5th . . .the "net-net"
wa
drop seven slots and swap a 5th for a 3rd.

You can criticize the Everett pick . . . but the philospohy of trading
down was solid.

And I can find where trade ups worked

And where trade-downs failed
and where trade-ups failed
and where standing pat worked
and standing pat failed.

The key is hitting on picks at a rate
better than the average...

If people want to go after McSnead for that
it's fair . . . poor picks like Tutu are fair game.

Just not sure they are idiots, though. They might
be pretty smart relative to other GM/coach combos

They could have taken Lavonte David and it would be moot

Trading down as philosphy is good, standing pat is good-it's situational
