I kinda figured it worked at least one time. My bigger concern is how many times it didn't work. I think the trade down strategy fails more than works.
As for what players were actually taken at the original picks, I am not sure how much that matters because those aren't necessarily the players the Rams would've taken there anyway. I am sure there were some good players that made it in the NFL that were taken either before or after the picks we traded.
For me, it all comes down to if you get lucky with whatever pick you eventually go with. It's all a crap shoot anyway. Even the #1 pick isn't a lock to make it in the NFL.
IMO, trading down from where we are isn't going to get you a whole lot of value. Just extra picks. Extra picks are ok if you are good at picking players lower in the draft but at some point, 5th and 6th rounders are exactly that. Players that might not make most NFL squads for more than a year or two max.
The odds of "hitting" a pick are much better the higher you pick...not lower.
Having said that, I am not real confident in Snead to make a sure fire pick at 36. If he picks there, there will be some pressure to get it right. Trading down eliminates some of that pressure due to the lower expectations of the later round picks.
I am pretty sure we trade down...again...even though there will be several players there that will have a good shot at being very good players. As I said, I am not confident in Snead to get it right at 36 and I think he might not be either. lol
I see at least one trade down from 36, maybe two. Then I see them trying to trade back up into the 5th or 6th for someone that has "fallen".
Either way, we only have 44 players on the team so the odds of most of our draft picks playing this year are pretty good whether they are good or not.
#HelmetHornsMatter
“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.
“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
