The Rams. That’s a big one for us because they play us the exact same way every time.
I might be taking Kittle's comment a little too literally, but...this is my primary complaint against Raheem Morris and the Rams' defense
when playing against the 49'ers.Although we've done a decent job of late defending against their rushing attack, it's quite clear that Shanny
KNOWS what we're doing on 3rd & intermediate passing downs where he repeatedly takes advantage of our scheme and/or personnel (i.e. picking on Troy Reeder or our poor tackling secondary).
In listening to Kittle, it's pretty clear that Shanny wants no part of pass-blocking Aaron Donald for any length of time. On top of that, for the past couple of years, he hasn't had a QB that could hurt anyone over the top. To me, this has SCREAMED getting more physical with their WR's (none of whom are considered great route runners) at the LOS in an effort to disrupt timing.
But we don't. And they seem to KNOW we won't.
Again, I haven't had any real problems with the defense overall.
But against this team?Maybe things will change with Purdy/Lance, but I'm not convinced that we'd be hurt switching things up against Shanny.
Would appreciate some thoughts from some of our X and O's guys.
